Specialist Agreement
Last updated: 22.10.2026
This agreement sets out the terms on which you offer your services as a specialist on Lumen. Please read it before you apply. You accept it by ticking the box when you sign up as a specialist and again at the first step of your application.
1. Parties and definitions
1.1 This agreement is between you and Bruo Systems Limited, 2c Grangegorman Lower, Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland, Reg. 765033 ("Lumen", "we", "us"). "You" means the person who applies, or is approved, as a specialist.
1.2 In this agreement: a "specialist" is a human designer or retoucher approved to offer services on Lumen; a "service" is one of the kinds of work listed in the specialist catalogue, each with a base price in credits; a "customer" is a Lumen account holder who hires a specialist; a "hire" is one order of one service from one specialist; the "thread" is the hire's task thread on the site; "credits" are the prepaid units customers buy on Lumen; "earnings" are the part of a hire's price owed to you under the fees clause.
1.3 Customers use Lumen under the Terms of Service (/legal/terms). This agreement governs the relationship between you and us.
2. Start and term
2.1 This agreement starts when you accept it and applies to your application. It continues for as long as you are a specialist, until it is ended under the suspension and termination clause.
2.2 If your application is not approved, this agreement ends on the day we tell you so, except the clauses on confidentiality, personal data and governing law.
3. Independent contractor status
3.1 You offer your services as an independent professional. You are not our employee, worker, agent or partner, and nothing in this agreement creates any of those relationships. You decide how and when you work and which hires you accept.
3.2 You provide your own equipment, software and licences. You may work for other clients and platforms, subject to the non-circumvention clause.
3.3 Some profiles in the catalogue are run by the Lumen team: a hire on one of them is carried out by our own designers working under that profile. Those designers are our staff, not specialists under this agreement, and earn nothing under it.
4. Applying and review
4.1 To apply you: accept this agreement; fill in your profile (your first name, a headline, a bio, an optional portfolio link and a minimum price per hire); pick 1 to 6 services; pass a short quiz on those services, with a pass mark of 70% and up to 3 attempts; give your date of birth; give your country of residence; and confirm that you do not live in or work from a country listed in the conduct and sanctions clause.
4.2 You must be at least 18. We check the date of birth you give when you apply and do not store it.
4.3 We do not collect identity documents. Approval reflects your answers and the review team's assessment of your profile and quiz; it is not a check of your identity.
4.4 The Lumen review team decides within 5 business days and emails you the decision. Until your application is approved, your profile is not listed. Everything you tell us must be true and about you.
5. Your profile and prices
5.1 Your public profile shows your first name, headline, bio, and the services you offer with their prices. No ratings, reviews or counts are shown.
5.2 You set a minimum price per hire between 100 and 20,000 credits. The price of a service with you is the larger of your minimum price and that service's base price. The customer sees this price before hiring and is charged exactly that.
5.3 After approval you can edit your headline, bio, minimum price, services and payout card from your specialist desk. A hire keeps the price shown when it was placed.
6. How hires work
6.1 When a customer hires you, the price in credits is taken from their credit balance and held for that hire.
6.2 You have 72 hours to accept a hire. If it is not accepted in that time, the hire is cancelled and the full price is returned to the customer's credit balance automatically. Until you accept, the customer can cancel the hire, with the full price returned to their credit balance.
6.3 You may decline a hire before you start it. After accepting, you may withdraw from a hire if you cannot do the work. In both cases the full price is returned to the customer's credit balance automatically.
6.4 You deliver through the thread: messages and file attachments of up to 4 MB each, in PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, PDF or ZIP format. Before you accept, the thread is read-only; after you accept, both of you can write in it. Only you, the customer and the Lumen team can read it. Delivered files stay available to the customer on the hire page after the hire is completed. Nothing physical is delivered.
6.5 After a delivery, the customer accepts it, requests changes (up to 2 rounds per hire), or opens a dispute. When changes are requested, you revise the work within the brief and deliver again. If the customer does nothing for 7 days after a delivery, it is accepted automatically.
6.6 A hire is completed when the customer accepts the delivery or it is accepted automatically. The held credits are then released and your earnings for the hire become owed.
7. Quality and delivery standards
7.1 You do the work with reasonable skill and care, in line with the service and the customer's brief.
7.2 Your work is original: made by you, or using material you are lawfully entitled to use, such as properly licensed fonts and stock. You do not plagiarise or pass off anyone else's work as yours.
7.3 When AI tools play a part in work you deliver and that matters to the customer, you say so in the thread.
7.4 You do not upload a customer's files, or the work made for them, to any other site, service or shared storage.
7.5 You keep the conversation in the thread, and you tell the customer early if you cannot do the work as described.
8. Fees: your share and how it is valued
8.1 For each completed hire you earn 70% of the hire's price in credits. Lumen keeps the rest as its fee.
8.2 Earned credits are valued at €0.0665 per credit, the per-credit price of the largest credit pack. For example, on a hire priced at 1,000 credits your share is 700 credits, worth €46.55. Amounts are rounded down to the cent.
8.3 When a dispute is decided, your share applies to the part of the price that is not refunded to the customer.
8.4 Earnings become owed when the hire is completed (accepted or accepted automatically) or when a dispute on it is decided.
8.5 Profiles run by the Lumen team earn nothing. Credits on your own account balance, including any welcome or bonus credits, are not earnings and cannot be paid out.
9. Payouts
9.1 You request a payout from your specialist desk once your owed earnings reach €50.00.
9.2 Payouts are made in euros to the payout card you saved on your specialist desk: the cardholder name and the card number, never the expiry date or security code. The card must be in your own name. You are responsible for keeping it correct.
9.3 We store the card number encrypted, show it to you only as its last 4 digits, and use it only to pay you. Your specialist desk shows the date and payout reference of each payout. Any fee the issuer of your card charges to receive a payment is outside our control.
10. Your own obligations on earnings
10.1 You are responsible for declaring your earnings and meeting any obligations that apply to you as an independent professional, including any registration required where you live.
11. Disputes and partial refunds
11.1 A customer can open a dispute from the hire page while the hire is in progress or delivered, giving a reason.
11.2 The Lumen team reviews the thread, including the brief, messages and files, and decides within 5 business days. The decision returns anywhere from none to all of the price to the customer's credit balance, and your share applies to the part that is not returned.
11.3 In a dispute the team acts as a mediator between you and the customer. Keep the thread complete, since it is the record the team relies on. Nothing in this clause limits any right you or the customer have under the law.
12. Intellectual property
12.1 You keep the rights in your work until the hire is completed. When it is completed, all rights in the delivered work pass to the customer, to the extent the law allows, and you agree not to assert any moral rights in it against the customer where the law permits. Where a dispute decision refunds part of the price, rights pass for the part paid, as the decision sets out.
12.2 You keep the rights in your own tools, templates and know-how. Where any of them form part of the delivered work, you grant the customer a permanent, worldwide licence to use them as part of that work.
12.3 You may show work made for a customer in your portfolio only with the customer's permission, given in the thread.
12.4 You allow us to show your profile (first name, headline, bio, services and prices) on Lumen while it is listed.
13. Confidentiality
13.1 You keep confidential the briefs, files and information you receive from customers and from us, use them only to carry out the hire, and do not disclose them unless the law requires it. This continues after the agreement ends.
14. Personal data
14.1 We handle your personal data, including your application answers, profile, payout card (stored encrypted) and thread messages, as described in the Privacy Policy (/legal/privacy).
14.2 Any personal data about a customer that you receive through a hire is used only for that hire, kept secure, and deleted once you no longer need it for the hire.
15. Non-circumvention
15.1 For 12 months after a hire, you must not take work from a customer you met on Lumen outside Lumen, or invite them to hire or pay you outside Lumen.
16. Conduct and sanctions
16.1 You treat customers and our team with courtesy. You do not harass, discriminate, mislead or send unsolicited messages, and you do not create unlawful, infringing or harmful content. You keep one specialist profile and do not share your account.
16.2 We do not accept specialist applications from Russia, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Cuba. The checks we perform are: the country of your IP address when you sign up and when you apply as a specialist, the email domain you sign up with, and the country of residence you declare. You confirm that you do not live in or work from any of these countries, and you tell us by email if that changes.
17. Warranties
17.1 You confirm that you are at least 18, that what you told us when applying is true, that you are free to enter into this agreement, and that the work you deliver does not infringe anyone else's rights.
17.2 We provide Lumen as it is. We do not promise any number of hires or any level of earnings.
18. Liability
18.1 Nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud.
18.2 Neither party is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit or business. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you under this agreement is limited to the earnings owed or paid to you under it.
18.3 You are responsible for loss caused by your breach of this agreement, including claims that work you delivered infringes someone else's rights.
19. Suspension and termination
19.1 Either of us may end this agreement by giving 14 days' notice by email: you to studio@lumen.deals, we to your account email.
19.2 We may suspend your profile or end this agreement at once if you materially breach it, for example through fraud, abuse, circumvention or a breach of the sanctions clause.
19.3 When the agreement ends, your profile is no longer listed and you receive no new hires. Active hires are either finished or refunded to the customer in credits. Earnings owed for completed hires stay owed: request them under the payouts clause, or email studio@lumen.deals if they are below the payout minimum.
19.4 The clauses on intellectual property, confidentiality, personal data, non-circumvention, liability and governing law continue after the agreement ends.
20. Changes to this agreement
20.1 We may change this agreement by giving you 30 days' notice by email. If you continue as a specialist after the notice period, you accept the change. If you do not agree, you may end the agreement before the change takes effect. Hires placed before a change continue under the version in force when they were placed.
21. Governing law and contact
21.1 This agreement is governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
21.2 Questions about this agreement: email studio@lumen.deals or write to Bruo Systems Limited, 2c Grangegorman Lower, Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland.
